Adobe Reader UK Installer broken..

For the past few days I’ve had trouble downloading Adobe reader for customers from the standard http://get.adobe.com/reader page.

The initial boot strap installer downloads and runs and then says:

“Connection failed. Unable to complete the installation.”

Wireshark reveals the reason…

GET /SSN/AIH/meta/reader11_uk_11004.solidpkg HTTP/1.1
Connection: Keep-Alive
Pragma: no-cache
Accept: */*
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.10; Windows NT 6.1.7601.65536; en-GB)
Host: platformdl.adobe.com

HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
Server: Apache
Content-Length: 237
Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN”>
<html><head>
<title>404 Not Found</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Not Found</h1>
<p>The requested URL /SSN/AIH/meta/reader11_uk_11004.solidpkg was not found on this server.</p>
</body></html>

Basically the file that the installer requests doesn’t exist. I’ve no idea how you report this kind of problem to Adobe.

In the mean time you can download the current latest US edition from:
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.04/en_US/AdbeRdr11004_en_US.exe
