Linux re-scan SATA…

While trying to recover information from a broken hard disk that was constantly dropping off the interface I found the following command useful:

echo "- - -" > /sys/class/scsi_host/host0/scan

I would copy some data and wait for the drive to fail and drop off the interface. I would then power cycle the drive and issue the above command… then resume the copy! Saved me rebooting the operating system every time.
